Increased COVID-19 Activity in CO, Hospitalizations in those < 50 y/o, and predominance of a new COVID-19 strain that is more infectious.

Most infections are among those who have NOT been vaccinated but there are a small number of breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated patients.

Don't let down your guard !

Vaccinate, Mask, physical distancing, continue precautions.

Monitoring COVID-19 cases

Colorado and many other states are seeing increasing rates of COVID-19, community spread and hospitalizations. While everyone is weary of this pandemic, we must double down on our efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.

UCHealth is now caring for about 160 hospitalized patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. Many of these patients are under the age of 50.

The COVID-19 vaccines remain highly effective, and the vast majority of our admitted patients were not fully vaccinated when they were exposed to the virus. However, we have seen a small number of “breakthrough” cases, when a fully vaccinated person still contracts the disease.

About 60% of the positive COVID-19 samples being tested in UCHealth labs are now variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and these variants continue to be more infectious.

UCHealth physician and operations leaders are closely watching our COVID-19 hospitalizations and testing positivity rates, and our PPE supplies remain strong. We are ready to respond should cases continue to increase.
